5K RUN/WALK TO BENEFIT STRIDES FOR SOBRIETY SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 15, 2018
The Strides for Sobriety organization is hosting a 5K Sunday, April 15 in Dublin to benefit troubled teenagers in the central Ohio community who seek recovery and rehabilitation.
With a 10 a.m. start time, this year’s event will start at the Karrer Middle School football field (located at 7245 Tullymore Drive). The run/walk will take participants through a scenic route on the Dublin trail system.
Strides for Sobriety was founded in response to the fact that more young people are becoming victims of addiction, but are not readily offered recovery alternatives due to the expense of treatment. Co-founders Ramona Penland-Coyle and Laurie Penland saw first-hand the strain addiction puts on families, not only emotionally, but financially as well.
“Our run is meant to encourage youth, families and our community to participate in an event that supports a healthy lifestyle without the use of alcohol or other drugs,” says Penland. “We will use the profits from this event to help fund treatment for kids who need a chance at sobriety, to provide skills for coping and learn skills to remain clean.”
The cost for the timed (chip) race is $35. The fee for participants who are 18 years of age or younger is $25. All profits will go directly to support a teen dealing with addiction. Those choosing not to run/walk sponsor another racer or make a donation on the registration site, found here.
